Description
“In Motion” is a dark mixed media artwork that explores the powerful idea that everything moves in a circle – nothing is eternal, and all living things eventually return to the earth. This piece invites viewers to reflect deeply on their own transient nature and the healing power of nature itself.
The inspiration for this artwork came gradually during my walks in nature, as I observed life, decay, and renewal. In the autumn 2022, I found a fox skull in the forest but left it there. Months later, in spring, while preparing for a regional exhibition themed “In Motion,” I felt the idea had matured, so I returned to collect the skull. I created this composition using real earth, artificial earthworms, and the found fox skull, symbolising that everything is in motion, every being dies, and the earth takes back what belongs to it.
Although I felt a sense of guilt taking something from nature, I believed the message was worth sharing. I hope viewers see beyond just the skull and worms, and connect with the deeper concept – the cycle of life, death, and renewal. This artwork encourages awareness of our place in nature and appreciation for each moment we are given.
