A series of original animal drawings created by artist Ala Botnarescu, inspired by a love for animals, personal emotions, a personal connection with the animal world, and a fascination with nature. The collection includes animal portraits and studies, from The Veal, Goat, and Cat Portrait to underwater artworks such as Fish, Sea Star, and The Ocean.
Mostly created with black gel pen and ink on medium-sized formats, these drawings capture the character and beauty of animals through detailed lines and expressive forms. The Ocean reflects the artist’s imagination inspired by the mystery of the underwater world, a place still not fully explored. Selected original artworks from the series are available for purchase.
1. Veal Portrait is an original animal drawing created with gel pen, capturing a quiet and emotional encounter between human and animal. Inspired by a photograph taken during a rainy afternoon walk in Bavaria, this artwork portrays a young calf with a deep, thoughtful gaze that reflects innocence, vulnerability, and the fragile connection between living beings.
The moment behind this drawing stayed with me: standing across an electric fence, we looked at each other in silence. The calf’s expression inspired me to transform this fleeting encounter into a detailed graphic artwork exploring themes of compassion, nature, and the relationship between humans and animals.
Created on A3 paper, the artwork is signed by the artist and professionally framed in a black aluminium frame with protective glass. The framed size is 40 × 50 cm.
2. Original Framed Cat Portrait. This original framed cat portrait, created for Inktober 2025 (prompt “Award”, October 31), closes the challenge as a true statement piece—hand-inked in black gel pen on warm yellow paper and finished with precise, professional framing. Signed and ready to hang, the artwork is available in the shop on the website as a one-of-a-kind collectible.
